WWI FRENCH army Bouthéon soup carrier MESS KIT; Hollywood reproduction from 1930s. Used, good condition for age. The
Bouthéon  was a cooking pot / food carrier used in both world wars by France to supply their troops with food. General, one man in as squad was assigned to carry it on his pack while other in his unit would carry the food or other cooking implements to create a 'mess' in camp with everyone contributing to the cooking. The
Bouthéon was somewhat oval shaped to fit on the soldier's backpack, but also could be carrying by its wire handle. But this is not an original
Bouthéon; rather, it's an original movie prop from the 1930s made of galvanized steel by the props department of some studio, like Fox. The 1932 French film 'Les Croix be Bois' (Wooden Crosses) had been purchased by Fox films in the United States, the combat footage being put to use in the John Ford movie, 'The World Moves On' (1934) and the Howard Hawks movie 'The Road to Glory' (1936). This
Bouthéon was likely made for at least one and possibly used in both movies to match the footage in the original film, but no provenance so buyer beware. Still a piece of Hollywood history.
