VINTAGE JAPANESE (c.1950) SHIGA RAKI KILN TEA CEREMONY CERAMIC CHAWAN TEA BOWL^

Description

I purchased this chawan (tea bowl) at an exclusive dealer only auction in Hikone Japan.  This is a ceramic bowl known as a
chawan
(tea bowl) used in a Japanese
chado
(tea ceremony).  It dates to the mid Showa Era (c. 1950) and came from the Shigaraki kilns near Hikone.
Suitable
more for the winter season, i
t is deep styled chawan used to keep the tea warm longer
. It has the typical dramatic drip glaze that The Shiga kilns are known for.  This chawan is all the more dramatic with the rich burgundy glaze as a backgrownd to the moss green flowing drip inside and out.
This chawan measures 4 3/4/"wide at its widest by 3" tall (12 x 7.5 cm).
Having been in storage for 70 years and used lovingly, it remains
