    Description

THIS WONDERFUL VINTAGE NAVAJO CORN MAIDEN NECKLACE CONSISTS OF 11 KACHINAS STRUNG TOGETHER ON STURDY SILVER FOXTAIL.
IT HAS  8-9mm NAVAJO BENCH MADE SOLDERED STERLING SILVER BEADS OFTEN REFERRED TO AS  AS "NAVAJO PEARLS".
THE KACHINAS ARE STRUNG ON DOUBLE ROWS OF THESE BEADS TO PROPERLY STABILIZE THEM.
THE CENTRAL KACHINA IS LARGER THAN THE 5 ON EITHER SIDE OF IT AND SERVES AS THE NAJA OR PENDANT IN A TRADITIONAL SQUASH BLOSSOM.
THE SMALLER KACHINAS ARE SET ALONG THE SIDES MUCH LIKE THE "BLOSSOMS" AND THERE ARE SINGLE ROWS OF BEADS FROM THE UPPERMOST KACHINAS LEADING TO THE HOOK AND EYE.
THE CENTER KACHINA IS ABOUT 3-1/4 INCHES TALL X 1 INCH ACROSS.
THE SMALLER KACHINAS  ARE APPROXIMATELY 2-1/2 INCHES TALL  X 7/8 ACROSS OR WIDE.
THE CENTRAL KACHINA HAS 3 NATURAL TURQUOISE STONES IN HER HEADDRESS IN SERRATED SETTINGS AS WELL AS SILVER BALLS SYMBOLIZING RAINDROPS  IN BETWEEN .
HER EYES ARE ROUND TURQUOISE STONES AND HER DRESS HAS A LARGE TURQUOISE  STONE ON THE BODICE AND TWO ROUND OR "SNAKE EYES" TURQUOISE STONES ON THE SKIRT.
THE SMALLER KACHINAS HAVE ONE TURQUOISE STONE IN THEIR HEADDRESSES WITH DECORATIVELY INCISED SILVER LEAVES ON EITHER SIDE.
THEY ALSO EACH HAVE ONLY ONE TURQUOISE STONE ON THEIR SKIRTS.
THE KACHINAS ARE INCREDIBLY DETAILED WITH APPLIED SILVER WIRE MOUTHS AND EARRINGS AS WELL AS INTRICATE BEADING  AND INCISED DECORATION ON THEIR SKIRTS.
THEY ALSO HAVE 3 DIMENSIONAL SILVER ARMS AND FEET.
THE NECKLACE IS STAMPED FY FOR FRANK YAZZIE AND STERLING
THE NECKLACE  IS  SECURED WITH A TRADITIONAL HOOK AND EYE.
IT IS APPROXIMATELY  27 INCHES LONG FROM END TO END.
    IT  WEIGHS 6.0  OZ
THE NECKLACE IS IN GOOD  PREOWNED UNPOLISHED CONDITION WITH SOME NOTICEABLE TARNISH WHICH I'M SURE CAN BE POLISHED TO A HIGH LUSTRE IF SO DESIRED.
FRANK YAZZIE IS DECEASED BUT THIS WAS AN ICONIC  FAVORITE DESIGN OF HIS WHICH HE  FASHIONED WITH EITHER ALL TURQUOISE OR ALL CORAL STONES.
THIS DESCRIPTION OF THE SYMBOLISM OF THE CORN MAIDEN IN NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE IS TAKEN FROM THE WEB . I FEEL IT IS  IMPORTANT TO KNOW IN THE CONTEXT OF THE NECKLACE-
    "
In the Pueblo indian culture, corn is to the people the very symbol of life. The Corn Maiden "grandmother of the sun and the light" brought this gift. The
    Corn Maiden
brings the power of life to the people
    .
    "
