Vintage 1965 Gibson GA-20 RVT Minuteman Combo Tube Amplifier Original Footswitch
Product description
Vintage 1965 Gibson GA-20 RVT Minuteman Combo Tube Amplifier Original Footswitch
We are proud to offer you this Vintage
1965 Gibson GA-20 RVT
Minuteman Combo Tube Amplifier with its Original Foot Switch and finished in its original black alligator Tolex covering. She's in excellent overall condition, both cosmetically & sonically. Her 8 tube chassis pushes 12.5 watts of power output through her original
12" speaker.
In our opinion, w
ith its well rounded tremolo and reverb effects, she's comparable to Fenders' iconic Blackface Princeton Reverb amplifier, both in size, ease of portability, and most importantly, her sonic capabilities. There are 4 plastic wheeled castors installed on the bottom of this gal, so she's even easier to move about in most situations.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Power output of 12.5 Watts, through a single, original CTS(Chicago Telephone Supply, speaker code #137) 12" speaker
8 tube chassis consisting of; Preamp section contains 3 X 6EU7 & 2 X 12AU7 tubes
Power section;: 2 X EL84 tubes and is tube rectified by a 5Y3 rectifier
White front mounted control panel with 2 channels (2 inputs per channel), one with Volume, treble and bass EQ controls, and another channel with the same EQ complement and additionally reverb and tremolo(depth & frequency) effects controls; a total of 10 knobs keeps it simple to find your sonic sweet spot
Original hard wired foot switch(with ultra long cable) that attaches for storage into a holding bracket on the right side wall of the amp cabinet
Serial # A028452, stamped directly under the 1.5 amp fuse on rear of chassis
Silver grill cloth
Cabinet measures 20.5" long x 19" high X 9.5" deep
Amplifier, including tubes & footswitch weighs 37 LBS, 5 OZ
5,457 manufactured & shipped between 1965 & 1967

Amp was thoroughly inspected, totally cleaned up & essentially underwent a complete audio tune up by JWN Audio, James W. Nicholls, proprietor, located at Barracks Trading Post in Maple Shade, NJ.

CONDITION, SERVICING & OUR OBVERSATIONS:
In order to get this amp into top notch
playing shape, the following maintenance was performed:
Audio tech changed out any electrolytic capacitors that weren't functioning up to spec;
Installed a new, grounded power cable for safety;
The original foot switch was rewired directly into the chassis (as was Gibson’s method in the 1960s); installed 2 12AX7 pre amp tubes; Installed 2 Mullard EL84-6BQ5 power output tubes;
Cleaned, lubricated & tightened all electronic components within the chassis.
Tolex and grill cloth are both 100% complete, and are without defects of any type. Original "GIBSON" badge is present, as well as the original foot switch.
All of the iron looks to be original & each transformer is branded "Chicago Standard Transformer Corporation".
There are some dents on the lower edge of the aluminum chassis. probably caused by removing and reinstalling the chassis into the cabinet without enough care given to that chore by a previous schmendrick (a highly technical term, same as a stugotz, if you catch our drift)!

**SPECIAL NOTE:
It is with a very heavy heart that we wish to share the news of the recent passing on
Dec 6, 2020, of our almost 12 year old red & white beagle, our beloved Ace. He was our mascot and namesake of this shop on Reverb.com. He gave us the initial inspiration to sign up with Reverb.com, primarily due to the name that we chose to use on this fantastic website. He was also the chief of security & official greeter for our bricks & mortar shop, always ready to engage with the customers; tail wagging, always happy & forever on the lookout for any ingestible treats that our customers wished to share with him as well as a nice butt or belly rub.
Ace is, and will continue to be, very sorely missed by all who knew him. Our shop will never be the same without his presence. But, his intense spirit and joie de vivre lives on, through our loving memories of him and also via this wonderful platform online. Love the heck out of ya, Acie!!

TO ALL PROSPECTIVE BUYERS:
If you are contemplating making us an offer on this or any of our other varied listings, please be fully prepared to follow through, pay for your item and consummate the deal if your offer is accepted by us. We have been hit hard lately by offers from buyers with little or even zero feedback or inexperience on this selling platform. These buyers never paid for their purchases. Obviously, we would rather this never happen again, but sometimes it will occur no matter what our wishes are. Thank you for reading this far and for your patience and understanding as well. And, in the immortal lyrics from an early Steve Miller Band tune, “You gotta keep on keepin on”!
