    Description

    Beautiful mid-century Kutani tea set with 5 lidded tea cups.  Beautiful red and gold painted kanji in excellent pre-owned condition. There are small scratches consistent with the age of the items, but there is no damage.   Please see photos.
    A few people have asked why there are "only" 5 teacups.  5 is the correct number and there are two main reasons:
    a traditional tea ceremony strives for asymmetry so odd numbers are desirable
    the number 4 is bad luck in Japan and is associated with death.  If one cup from a set a 5 breaks, another cup is often discarded to avoid having 4 in the set!
