Southwestern Native American Morenci turquoise sterling silver cuff bracelet, by Navajo artist ELOUISE KEE, signed and stamped STERLING on a silver plate. This outstanding cuff features a rare sky-blue Morenci turquoise with a marbled copper matrix embedded with silver bits (iron pyrite) all around. The Morenci turquoise is a classic American stone, highly regarded by collectors, especially since it's no longer produced. The mine, located in Greenlee County, Arizona, was mainly an open-pit copper mine, until the blue gems with copper matrices were found. The Morenci mine is one of the largest in the United States, and produced high-grade turquoise stones in a wide range of color.
This striking cabochon is set in a smooth bezel wrapped in silver beads, and framed by Elouise's most famous cut-out Sterling silver overlay. The overlay sits on a dark recessed setting with a nicely cut, carinated border. The stone is secured to a four-tine cuff partially covered by a large, fan-shaped silver sheet on each side, with lines resembling sun rays. Each fan is adorned with a raised hogan applique. The multi-layer design, the overlay cut-outs, and raised appliques give this piece dimension and texture. This cuff weighs 90.5 grams (3.19 oz)!! It's 2 3/16" wide, and measures 6" around the inside, end to end. Add 15/16" for the gap. The stone alone is approximately 1 1/2" tall by 1" wide, from bezel to bezel. Rare stone, and superb silver work by Kee.
Thank you for supporting authentic Native American art.
